In 2022, Samantha had a profile on Hinge with a job that read, “Sales at NHL Team.” Despite having it on her profile, she swore she’d “never date a guy whose first comment was about her job.”

Of course, Kyle’s first message asked her which team she worked for, hoping it would be the Islanders and spark a conversation. If it had been the Rangers, we may not be here today!

From there, they set up a first date at Cask, near both of their apartments in Murray Hill. It lasted over four hours! The couple sitting next to them, already more than a few drinks in, noticed that they were on a first date. They loved it and got involved in the conversation, even buying extra rounds of drinks for what now felt like a double date for four.

Whenever Kyle or Sam went to the bathroom, the couple would ask how things were going and whether they were interested in a second date. Each time, both said yes, without hesitation.

The next few months were spent going on dates all over NYC, meeting each other’s friends and family, and getting to know everything about each other. After two years of dating, they moved in together on the Upper East Side, and their lives became completely intertwined.

In January 2026, Kyle planned a “golf trip” with some friends to Florida. He packed a suitcase with all of his belongings and left for work that morning with all of his stuff. Sam had dinner plans with her sister-in-law, Carly, at Uva… at least, that’s what she thought! The trip was a fake-out, and Kyle shocked her at the restaurant by asking her to marry him. Their families were waiting next door, and within 10 minutes, there was a celebratory dinner for the newly engaged couple.

Fast forward over five years from Cask and 18 months from Uva… they’ll be getting married on Long Island. They CAN’T WAIT to see you there and celebrate!
